A world-renowned research center is growing at the RWTH Aachen Campus Melaten in close cooperation between the university and researchers. Around 19 research clusters focusing on different areas, each with their own office, laboratory and warehouse space, are accommodated across 800,000 square meters.

The Center for Digital Photonic Production has been created on a space covering 10,000 square meters in the Photonics research cluster. The purpose behind the research building is interdisciplinary research into all aspects of digital photonic production chains. The primary goal is to utilize the unique physical properties of photons for the production of the future. The research is carried out by scientists from the faculties of physics, machine engineering, materials engineering, electrical engineering, medical technology and economics.

Laboratories, offices and meeting rooms are being created for staff and visiting scientists. The offices are close to the physical laboratory areas. They are functionally divided into nano, femto and laser sections, and are designed as laser protection class 4.
